A selfless nurse adopted the son of a patient wth cancer to keep her promise to take care of her 8-year-old son after she died.
Oncology nurse Tricia Seaman is making headlines for her selfless act towards a cancer patient at a hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. Eight years ago, she met Trish Somers, who was battling cancer and eventually became a close friend.
Trish, who was interviewed by CBN News , shared the impact nurse Tricia gave her.
“Before she even said anything, I just felt comfort,” she described eight years ago. “It was almost like somebody just put a warm blanket on me. I’ve never felt anything like that before or any other connection with anybody else.”
A Noble Decision
As soon as the single mom discovered she had terminal cancer, she asked for the nurse’s favor. For the sake of her 8-year-old son, Wesley, Trish asked for her to take care of him after she died.
“What do you say to somebody?” nurse Tricia said. “She’s 45 years old. So I just gave her a hug and she said, ‘I have something that I need to ask you.'” Then Trish asked, “Can you take my son? Will you raise him if I die?”
The nurse consulted her family before finally agreeing to the cancer patient’s favor. And soon, they became like family. When Trish passed away she kept her promise and adopted the 8-year-old.
Today, Wesley is 16-years-old. Nurse Tricia describes him as a “kind” and “loving” son. And Wesley is grateful for his mom’s decision to leave him to the nurse.
“I think it was the only thing she could think to do, really. And I’m thankful every day that she made that decision,” he said.
May we learn from nurse Tricia’s story to be always ready to lay down our lives for others. To be the hands and feet of Jesus whenever, wherever, for His Glory.
