Pentecost is a time when we remember how the power of God came upon ordinary people, turning them into bold witnesses for the extension of God’s Kingdom. Consider the Apostle Peter who once denied Christ and yet was so filled with the power of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost that he was able to lead 3,000 people to salvation. What a transformation!
“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to Himself.” (Acts 2:38-39)
The enduring power of Pentecost
Through the centuries that have passed since the book of Acts, we have seen countless great men and women of God exemplify the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon their lives and the promise of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit continues to be fulfilled in the lives of believers today.
This Pentecost, consider the Christian leaders who have impacted our Christian walk in recent years and have now passed away. We think of Oral Roberts, Steve Hill, Billy Graham, Chuck Missler, Don Nori and most recently Bob Gas. All of these left behind a burning torch for us, a baton to pick up of God’s anointing just like Elisha received a mantle from Elijah.
Discover the wonders of our King
The founder of Destiny Image, Don Nori was a prolific writer who leaves behind a vast legacy of life-changing Christian books. A respected prophetic voice, he had prophetic insight into his passing. He wrote these words just days before he died:
“After Pentecost: The purpose of God goes on with or without us. Some will stop following the cloud and pillar of fire. Some will go beyond manna. Some will cross the Jordan into Canaan. I hear the Seventh Trumpet. Who will move on into the undiscovered wonders of their King?”
This poses the question, what will our legacy be when we come to the end of our lives? Don followed the cloud, he entered the Promised Land and is now discovering the untold wonders of His King and his example calls out to us to do the same.
Where are the statesmen of God?
Ever, the encourager, in these words Don was egging us on to go further with God. He said we don’t need another revival, but as believers, we need to come to the fore as sons of God, embrace Pentecost and leave our comfort zones behind us.
In videos on his YouTube Channel, Don asks: “Where are the statesmen of God” and “Who will be authentic ambassadors?” for Jesus. Speaking on The Prophetic Edge he says: “If there is one thing the world needs right now, it’s statesmen – men and women we can count on and God is raising up His sons and daughters, who have the strength of character to be an anchor in the world today.”
Who will pick up the baton?
In the video below, Don shares the impact that Oral Roberts made on his life and ministry and how he published Oral’s books. He tells of a picture he had of the great healing evangelist stepping into Heaven, carrying a torch of tremendous fire and how Oral tossed it back to the earth as a last prophetic act.
Are we ready to pick up the baton God is giving us? Oral Roberts, Billy Graham and Steve Hill had a torch of tremendous fire for evangelism, Chuck Missler was an amazing Bible teacher and writers like Don Nori and Bob Gas had a flaming torch for writing and publishing. Depending on our ministry calling and spiritual gifts our batons will be different, however, the fire of the Holy Spirit poured out on Pentecost is for us all.
Will you take up a torch of fire this Pentecost? Will you embrace your God-given minstry calling and anointing?
