A man with broken bones and paralysis due to a tragic accident makes an incredible recovery after a powerful united prayer of family, friends, and church.

Deadly Accident & Broken Bones

John Futrell met a deadly truck accident with his two co-workers, which landed him in a critical condition. Meanwhile, his co-workers didn’t survive the ordeal. Soon, his wife, Debrah, found out about his husband’s accident after the hospital called. Then as soon as they drove towards the long-hour drive hospital, she immediately called everyone to pray for her husband. She called their family, friends, and church.

When Debrah and her son, Brent, arrived at the hospital, doctors told them John had little chance of survival. Because “he’s got a broken neck, back, shoulder, and ribs.” He also suffered from a third-degree burn. They felt devastated as the doctors added John could have zero chance of living if he wouldn’t make it within 24 hours.

Contending In Prayer

However, John survived the 24 hours and stabilized after 48 hours by God’s grace. He was put into a medically-induced coma. But doctors had another concern about John’s condition. They couldn’t perform surgery on his neck and back because he had severe burns on his stomach. The risks were high, and if they pushed through the operation, it could lead to paralysis. All the family could do was “wait and pray.”

Meanwhile, the Futrell family fought the battle in prayer despite what doctors said. They knew he was a Miracle-Working God. Hence, they were confident that God would do something great.

Three weeks later, John went through ten surgeries while people continued contending in prayer. That’s when he began to show promising signs. Then his neurosurgeon broke the news that “John’s neck and back had completely healed.”

“Thank You, Jesus!” Debrah responded.

Forty-one days later, John recovered well but faced another battle in rehab. At that moment, he was in pain and couldn’t sleep.

“Body brace that I had to wear was just more than I could take emotionally,” he recalled.

And today, John testifies that the prayers saved him.

Long-Term Paralyzed Mice Walk Again In World’s First Experiment In Israeli Lab

Israeli scientists at Tel Aviv University were able to make mice with long-term paralysis walk by giving them human spinal cord implants, according to research published Monday. And the researchers hope to start clinical trials for humans in less than three years.

“There are millions of people around the world who are paralyzed due to spinal injury, and there is still no effective treatment for their condition. If this works in humans, and we believe it will, it can offer all paralyzed people hope that they may walk again,” said Professor Tal Dvir at the Sagol Center for Regenerative Biotechnology. Dvir said that he and his research team are already discussing human trials with the US Food and Drug Administration.

According to the peer-reviewed research published in the journal Advanced Science on Monday, Dvir and his team of scientists conducted the groundbreaking experiment on 15 mice with long-term paralysis. Dvir said that this is the first time in the world that any team has engineered spinal cord tissue using cells from humans and transplanted it. All the mice were injected, and 12 of the 15 started walking normally again.

The researchers also tried the process on mice with more recent paralysis. The treatment worked successfully on 80 percent of the mice with chronic paralysis and on 100 percent of those with new or recent paralysis.

Because the mice received implants from the cells of three different people, this gives hope that in the future, unique spinal tissue can be grown for each human patient, using cells from their own body.

Prof. Dvir is hopeful that this will eliminate the need for patients to be on a regime of immune-suppressing drugs for the rest of their lives, as in the case of most transplant therapies. Using their own cells will “enable regeneration of the damaged tissue with no risk of rejection.”

Similar experiments have been conducted but usually with animals who have a recent paralysis. The fact that the mice in the Israeli experiment had suffered long-term paralysis and yet experienced a regeneration of spinal cells could bring hope to paraplegics and quadriplegics, no matter how long they have been paralyzed.

“Realistically, most humans needing treatment will have been paralyzed for some time when treatment is wanted, so this is important,” Dvir said. “In our experiment…we had success with both (mice with long and near-term paralysis) and expect the impact to work with humans who have been paralyzed for different amounts of time. People injured at a very young age are destined to sit in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives, bearing all the social, financial, and health-related costs of paralysis. We hope to solve this and help them to walk.”

Television Personality, Kim Atienza, Shares How Illness Changed His Relationship With Jesus

Alejandro Ilagan Atienza, professionally known as Kim Atienza, is a Filipino television host, anchor, former politician, and a born-again Christian. You might know his name but have you heard his incredible testimony?

Kim grew up deeply rooted in faith.

“I grew up, like most of us religious people, with Jesus as best friend. I talked with Jesus, my best friend, all the time,” he said. “A best friend is someone you could run to. He’s also someone you could disobey or snub when you’re not in the mood. Friends always understand,” Kim added.

He always wanted to become a TV personality but was lead to politics because of his family’s background. After 12 years in politics, God answered the desires of his heart to have a career in TV.

It seemed like his life was going perfectly when suddenly, in August of 2010, Kim suffered a stroke. A few years, Kim again suffered from paralysis.

It was during his paralysis that he made a decision to commit his life with the Lord. His illness changed his perspective about God.

“It was on the morning of August 2013 that the motto of Ironman, ‘I Can,’ cannot apply. How can I do anything in my power when I cannot even move my fingers or wiggle my toes. It was at that moment that it dawned on me, Ironman’s motto can never apply because I was totally powerless and His grace is all I needed. His grace is enough. All else is bonus,” he said.

“I finally got it. Not I can, but He can. All my life, Jesus was my best friend. That morning, I realized that I needed Jesus not only as best friend, but also as Lord.”

“Thank You, LORD!”: Nurse Erupts With Gratitude

The average hug is 3 seconds long. Hugging seems to follow an unspoken “three-second rule.” But researchers have found that a 20-second hug can have therapeutic effects. No doubt that is true for 17-year-old Bailey Murrill, who may have just been the recipient of the longest and most enthusiastic hug ever caught on tape.

In a heart-warming video, you can watch Bailey wheel herself down the hospital corridor to her nurse and then stand up and walk. It may not sound remarkable, except when you consider that she hadn’t walked for 11 days and was told she had only a five percent chance of walking again. Her astonished nurse enthusiastically ran toward her and hugged her tightly, all the while praising God for His miracle.

Here’s Bailey’s story – and God’s miracle.

A Gut-Wrenching Injury

Just a few short weeks before her high school graduation, Bailey was rough-housing around her home with her father. She lost control and couldn’t prevent herself from falling on her back in an awkward position, immediately losing feeling in both her legs.

This untimely injury landed Bailey in Zale Lipshy University Hospital in Dallas, while doctors struggled to uncover the cause of her hip down paralysis. As her classmates prepped for their senior prom and last hoorah, Bailey fervently prayed for God’s will to be done in her life.

According to Bailey, “The whole time I had this attitude I would leave it in his hands and be prepared for what he decided.” But maintaining this attitude was tough when the days passed and she still could not feel her legs – a frightening situation beyond her control. Luckily, she had an angel watching over her the entire time – her nurse.

An Unexpected Bond

Over these 11 days of paralysis and prayer, Bailey bonded with her nurse, who was also a Christian. The nurse began to regularly pray for Bailey and encouraged her to keep the faith – even when the future seemed unclear.

This strong bond with a fellow Christian sustained Bailey as she waited on God.

Paying It Forward

Eleven days after she lost feeling in her legs, Bailey was slogging through yet another round of physical therapy. But this time something was different. She felt little twinges and tingles in her legs – signs that her nervous system was beginning to fire!

Soon she regained all feeling and was even able to walk. But Bailey’s nurse was nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, she was having a bad day and had been stuck in an elevator for over an hour.

Bailey wanted to reciprocate the hope and joy that the nurse had given her, so she orchestrated a surprise. Bailey wheeled herself down the hallway to meet her nurse halfway. Then she stood up and walked. But she didn’t have to walk far, as the overjoyed nurse quickly covered ground to embrace the healed patient.

“Thank you, LORD!” the nurse cried. She explained that she had been praying for Bailey, and this healing was an answer to prayers. “I’m so happy for you. I’m so happy for you,” the nurse said. “See there, I told you. Just keep the faith.”
