Violent protests stormed the Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd death this week. But George’s younger brother Terrence Floyd arrived Monday calling out the protesters for peace.
The injustice act towards the late 46-year-old stirred both rage and mercy among people. Some resorted to violence in some cities, looting places and clashing with the police. And some it took to social media. However, a week later, George’s younger brother went to the Minneapolis intersection and finally spoke up.

He stood in the place where the life of George Floyd came to an end a week ago. The younger brother arrived at around 1:00pm. He was the first family member to visit the spot where George died. Then he cried and knelt in prayer amid the protest signs, balloons, candles and other mementos. He became so emotional that he needed two men on either side to support him from falling.

Terrence then addressed the crowd around him urging them for peaceful protest. And he led them to a series of chants encouraging the right wisdom of promoting justice.
“Peace on the left, justice on the right,” he said as if to say both must go hand in hand.
“First of all, first of all,” Terrence said. “If I’m not over here wilin’ out, if I’m not over here blowing up stuff, if I’m not over here messing up my community — then what are y’all doing? Nothing, because that’s not going to bring my brother back at all.”
“So let’s do this another way,” he stressed out. “Let’s stop thinking that our voice don’t matter and vote…because it’s a lot of us and we still going to do this peacefully.”
That’s when he lead the crowd in a chant of, “Peace on the left and justice on the right.”
Terrence expressed his gratefulness to the people who supported them as well. He implored them to continue fighting for justice regarding his brother’s death but in a peaceful manner.
He told them that what they’re doing “might feel good for the moment, but when you come down, you’re gonna wonder what you did.”
“My family is a peaceful family,” he said. “My family is God-fearing. Yeah, we’re upset. But we’re not gonna take it, we’re not gonna be repetitious.”
Then he continued, “Do this peacefully, please. My brother moved [to Minneapolis] from Houston, and I used to talk to him on the phone. He loved it here. … I highly doubt — no, I know — he would want y’all to be doing this.”
