17-Year-Old Worship Leader Brings America’s Got Talent To Church With Her Performance

A 17-year-old worship leader from the Dominican Republic, who won Dominicana’s Got Talent in 2021, brought America’s Got Talent: All-Stars to church with her worshipful performance.

After winning Dominicana’s Got Talent in 2021, Keren Montero was invited to participate in America’s Got Talent: All-Stars this year. In her country, the singer is a celebrity. She has appeared on several TV shows and commercials in her nation and even sang in front of the President.

Today, as the 17-year-old performed in front of America’s Got Talent judges and crowd, she brought everyone to church. She sang Lauren Daigle’s “Rescue” in a worshipful performance.

The AGT audience applauded her with a standing ovation at the end of her performance.

“I think you gave yourself a real shot just then in this competition,” judge Heidi Klum commented on the teen. “You have such a powerful and beautiful voice. You sound amazing.”

Judge Howie Mandel also commended her voice. Meanwhile, judge Simon Cowell shared an honest critique of her performance. He told the singer, “when you come on a show like this or anything, you’ve got to find a song. And you’ve got to turn it into your unique version. I liked it, but I think sometimes you’ve got to do something no one’s ever done before.”

Worship Leader In Her Country

Keren’s Instagram bio reads, “Worshiper of Christ. Singer. I owe everything to God.”

Apparently, Keren is more than just a celebrity in her country. She is also a worship leader in her local church. The teen led the congregation to worship in one of her Instagram videos. And in the post, she wrote, “When the glory of God floods you, your life is never the same again. And by opening your heart, that darkness becomes that light that illuminates everything around you.”

Also, in another video clip, Keren exhorted the congregation while leading worship. She wrote, “We cannot live without His Presence.”

The Performance Trap And How To Set Yourself Free

Finding value in your performance is a slippery slope and the performance trap is something that many fall into.

From a child we learn that pleasing others makes for an easier life – we learn to perform to meet the perceived expectations of others rather than be our true created self. Most of our education and work life is built around “performing” the certain tasks and achieving the certain goals. This mind-set and culture is pervasive in the life of most churches (even if it’s unconsciously). Much of the worship and ministry that occurs is performance based for both the leader and the “audience”. We have been hoodwinked into this way of thinking and behaving.

One problem with this is that it leads to the erroneous conclusion that God needs us to perform for Him. And this is just NOT true! Sadly, it breaks His heart when he sees us doing that. His love is unconditional and He looks for those who will worship (and lead) in ‘the realm of the Spirit’. And He wants us to worship and lead in authentic reality (see John 4:23).

Performance Trap: Does it apply to you?

Here is a question: Which of the following is your reality?

Self-worth = my performance + people’s opinion of me.

Self-worth = His acceptance + His opinion of me.

Ask Holy Spirit in which way you “perform” in either your private or public life and ministry (whether that’s consciously or not). It is imperative to ask yourself these kinds of questions and resist the temptation to apply them to others! However, in regard to performance there is an obvious application to the Church.

So, without being judgmental I ask the following questions: Why do we put people on platforms and ask them to “perform” for us? Why do we create so many titles and labels in a church? What is the reason behind such emphasis on attendance and keeping the rules? Why is church more like an organisation than a family? Ask Holy Spirit to show you God’s heart on these things. It is time to re-brand yourself as a lover of God, not a lover of praise or opinion! God has so much more for your freedom in Him!

A Christian choir auditioned for America’s Got Talent, and Simon Cowell was displeased with their performance. But after giving them a second chance, he stood in awe.

In one of the recent episodes of America’s Got Talent, the Sing Harlem Choir shared their talent with the world. But before they began to perform, the group’s choir director Noelle introduced the group while overwhelmed with emotion. Apparently, all the teen members have been her trainees in Harlem, New York, since they were very young. And now, most of them are teens.

Displeased Simon Cowell

The Sing Harlem Choir performed and gave a lively choir performance. The group danced while singing in their black and red sneaker costume. They got to draw the AGT audience with their lively show and impressive harmony with their vocals. But judge Simon Cowell seemed to be displeased after their performance.

“Are you kind of up for doing something a little bit unprepared?” he asked. “Because I’m slightly on the fence with you right now.”

Further, Simon explained that it was because he felt their performance was “less like a choir and more like a musical.” But he gave them a chance and requested to do it once again and “do an audition as a choir” with their second song. So, Sing Harlem Choir accepted the judge’s challenge, and the choir director told the teens to sing “Amazing Grace.”

Soon, the Christian group began to perform with a young boy, Moses, kicking off with his powerful vocals. Then the rest of the teenagers sang and began to harmonize their incredible voices.

In the end, Simon’s frowned face turned into laughter, and he stood up in amazement. And finally, the Christian group received three “yes” from all the judges.

Five-time Grammy Award-winning gospel duo, Mary Mary, wows thousands with their soulful performance of ‘Lift every voice and sing’ at Super Bowl 56.

The game between Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams was held at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. And the singing duo, Erica Campbell and Trecina Atkins-Campbell, lived in that same place. At Super Bowl, they sang before the game started and belted an encouraging song to welcome the audience.

Together with the equally talented accompaniment, LA Phil Youth Orchestra, they performed a beautiful rendition of ‘Lift every voice and sing.’

Victory in Christ

But of course, to us believers, our victory is found in God alone. Deuteronomy 20:4 says, “For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

Now, many people applauded the contemporary Christian music artists’ vocal performance.

A user named Lajoy Gentry wrote, “Them harmonies snatched me up out my seat at the end! A round of applause is in order to #MaryMary!”

Also, another wrote, “They literally sound like 4 people singing. They are some of the best vocalists of our time. And they from the wood too! West produces the best. Killa Cali all day!!!”

The video has reached more than 220,000 views since NFL shared it on YouTube.

Christian singer Natalie Grant sang a stunning national anthem performance during the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship that created a buzz online.

On Monday night, Natalie performed at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was invited to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” for the championship game.

In the singer’s Facebook post, she wrote, “Last night was a thrill. Beyond grateful for the opportunity. Last words in my mind before the first note, ‘Jesus, be glorified.'”

But then she highlighted, “I know it was the national anthem. But He’s in every moment and can work through every moment. God bless America.”

Trending National Anthem Performance

After Natalie’s powerful performance, her video singing the national anthem became trending both on Twitter and Google.

Later on, in an appearance on “On Balance with Leland Vittert,” she shared her experience.

“Honestly, what I was thinking before it started was, ‘Just don’t mess up the words,'” the Christian singer said. “You just felt this moment where everybody was just showing love for our country. And that was beautiful to see.”

Many praised Natalie’s amazing performance during the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship. Among those who recognized her is actor and talk show host Arsenio Hall. He tweeted how Natalie “crushed it.”

Furthermore, the singer’s fans greatly applauded her vocal chops on Facebook.

Facebook user Lissette wrote, “It was AMAZING!” And also, singer Justin Gambino added, “Wow. Just wow. So amazingly executed and performed!”

Indeed, when you give your talents to God, He will naturally be glorified. Through Natalie Grant’s public performance, many praised Jesus as it reflected in all that she does.

Pop music icon Justin Bieber took the stage of NBC’s show Saturday Night Live with an emotional performance. Together with Christian rapper Chancellor Johnathan Bennett, popularly known as “Chance The Rapper,” they performed their latest single “Holy” live on national television.

In a stage set as a rural church with an illuminated cross as a backdrop, worship filled the atmosphere. The 26-year-old singer took the audience to church as he began singing the tune with his hand on his heart as a form of worship.

“Oh God, Runnin’ to the altar like a track star. Can’t wait another second cause the way you hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me, hold me feels so holy,” Justin sang.

Chance the Rapper

“Holy” is a song by the Canadian singer featuring American rapper Chance the Rapper released in September 2020. The pop-gospel song talks about relationship, marriage, and faith in God amidst adversity.

“The first step pleases the Father/Might be the hardest to take/But when you come out of the water/I’m a believer,” Chance rapped. “Gotta clean it up/Formalize the union in communion/He can trust/I know I ain’t leaving you like I know He ain’t leaving us/I know we believe in God and I know God believes in us.”

Holy

As the song comes to an end, the emotion became stronger. Justin ended the performance bowing down and Chance reached over him patting him on his back to show support. The raw emotions and the faith in God of these artists can literally be felt by the audience.

Upon the release of this single, Justin Bieber emphasized that “Holy” marks the beginning of a new era.

Andrea Bocelli: An Example Of Evangelistic Pioneering

In a time when the world is connecting and communicating in new ways, God is moving in new ways too. On Easter, Andrea Bocelli performed to an empty Duomo di Milano in a performance called Music For Hope. The live stream started with Bocelli sharing that he said “yes”. Yes to an invitation to sing at Milan Cathedral. He believes in the strength of praying together and in the Christian Easter. Those bold statements were streamed across the world. And 27 million people have heard from the iconic voice about the power of coming to God in prayer.

Andrea Bocelli: Positive Impact

While his performance lasted just 25 minutes, its impact is still being felt – not only as the YouTube views rack up, but every major media outlet shares news of his live stream. The New York Post and NPR have both published direct quotes from Bocelli stating that the live stream wouldn’t be a concert but a prayer, and that he hoped those who watched would join him in praying. In a time when pandemic and politics fill our airwaves, the message of prayer and unity are cutting through. As of this writing, the performance is ranked as the number 1 video on YouTube.

Bocelli’s performance and its impact are nothing short of amazing, but it could just be one sign among many that God is moving in new ways. He is not limited by communication methods or mediums, and we shouldn’t be surprised that in a time when most aren’t able to share Him through traditional evangelism, He makes a way. Luke 19:10 says that he came to seek and save the lost, but it doesn’t say that he needs a church building, pamphlet or street team to do that. In fact, he is used to pioneering new methods of evangelism.

Jesus’ Pursuit

As Jesus walked the earth, he preached the gospel through short, relatable stories. He did this so they would be retained, studied and shared. He knew the culture and times. So he crafted stories that spoke of familiar settings and roles. And He made sure they were short enough to spread by word of mouth. Yesterday, Jesus used an entertainer and a media platform to reach 27 million people because he knew that those He is pursuing would be alone, seeking entertainment and glued to their phones.

He is notorious for meeting people in unexpected places. And Bocelli’s performance may have been a vehicle that carried the gospel into the homes of millions. We may never know its evangelistic impact. But the opera singer spends the last four minutes of the performance telling of God’s redemptive power through song. When you hear him sing Amazing Grace, God’s presence is almost tangible.

We navigate through an unprecedented time of social distancing. And it will be amazing to see a new wave of evangelistic pioneering. God is not only adaptable – adaptability originated with Him. He has always pursued and loved in the most personal and unique ways imaginable. And of course, He will continue to reach the lost in places and ways He knows they will be found.

Sarah Grace took one of the biggest risks in The Voice’s history by singing her own rendition of “Amazing Grace”. Her courage to give such a spiritual performance paid off – her song hit the third spot on iTunes!

Team Kelly Clarkson’s 16-year-old talent, Sarah, arranged the traditional hymn to fit her own style. She also played the trumpet in her performance which made her song that much more unique and exciting! This was her best vocal performance to date and her strongest overall showing.

“This idea is the coolest idea that anyone I ever worked with on The Voice has ever come to the table with,” said Sarah’s coach, Kelly Clarkson. “This is an insanely cool version of ‘Amazing Grace’. It’s my favorite I’ve ever heard.”

Sarah’s daring concept paid off. By skyrocketing into the top 3 on the iTunes Charts, her performance became the highest charting song yet on The Voice Season 15.

Other judges were also in awe of her brave performance

“I love how this displays your confidence, to be able to take ‘Amazing Grace’ and make it your own and do something different with it and to use this moment to display your talents,” Jennifer Hudson raved. “That was extremely smart. It was beautiful.”

The Voice 2018 (USA) will be narrowing down its long list of talented hopefuls to only nine contestants, and as they continue with the LIVE Shows, more and more Christian songs are rocking the stage, with powerful performances!
