Pain, struggles, and challenges are a part of life. But the question is, how do we respond when faced with these adversities? Do we drown ourselves with worry or do we become prayerful?
Whether we admit it or not, most often, our initial response is worry, fear, or doubt. Most likely because our senses respond according to what we see in our circumstances. But what does the Word of God say should be our response when faced with adversity?
Be Prayerful
It says in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This verse tells us to respond in prayer every time. That whenever we become anxious with many things, we must go deeper in prayer and allow the peace of God to saturate our hearts and minds.
It was also Jesus who said in Matthew 6, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
This was a loving command from Jesus not to worry and simply trust Him. In the following verses in 31-34, Jesus said, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
He assured us that God knows what we need even before we ask of Him.
So, relentless woman, if you’re worrying over something right now, surrender it all to God. Let prayer be your response in all that you do. And you’ll be amazed how God will come through for you.
