God’s Word For Today: Protect Your Peace

It is vital in the days we live in to learn how to protect your peace. Your peace was purchased at the cross.

Today’s Verse

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him. And by His stripes, we are healed. Isaiah 53:3

This powerful scripture reminds us of the price Jesus paid on the cross for our salvation, healing, and peace.

So often, the focus of this scripture is placed on salvation and healing, and rightly so. But our peace also was purchased on the cross and sometimes we overlook this important revelation.

Do you live with the same level of conviction that your peace was paid for at the cross? Just as your sins were paid for, and just as your healing was paid for, your peace was also paid for by the death of Jesus Christ.

It is crucial to remember that there is a battle for your peace. The enemy will do everything he can to steal your peace, knowing the worth God has placed on it. The peace that Jesus gives us is not like the peace the world gives (John 14:27). It is a peace that surpasses all understanding, a peace that can only come from Him (Philippians 4:7).

Spending time in the Word of God and in His Presence regularly will build our awareness of the peace He has already given to us. Aligning your thoughts with His will clears out the chaos and confusion that so often surrounds us.

You must remember that you are the steward of peace in your life and you must actively protect your peace. You may not be able to control the chaos around you, but you can control your inner world through the fruits of the Spirit and the help of the Holy Spirit. You can take back your peace, which you may have unknowingly given away.

Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” This scripture shows that God’s peace will always triumph over the world’s version of peace because it is Himself, the Prince of Peace.

Continue to pursue peace just as you would pursue healing.

Peace Doesn’t Just Happen

Let’s talk about peace today. Now, as believers, we hear this word all the time. Sometimes it’s on our coffee mugs, sometimes it’s on a sign in our house. We love the word peace, and rightly so; it is part of our inheritance as believers and children of God. And I just wanted to read a scripture because I wanted to encourage you this morning. And I also wanted to bring some awareness, that peace doesn’t just happen.

We have to become aware that the Prince of Peace, the Person of Peace lives within us and as our awareness of that grows, so does peace manifest in our lives. And who knows, I bet we all do, we just have to turn on the news, right? That there is a battle for our peace. I think daily, the enemy is trying to steal our peace. And I want to read this scripture, because I think it highlights the importance of peace in our life. In Isaiah 53:5, it says, “But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon him, and by his stripes, we are healed.”

I know that we talk a lot about healing and we talk a lot about salvation and redemption, all of these incredible things that happened at the cross that we are so thankful for. But do we often tie peace to something that was purchased for us at the cross? Because it’s a big deal. God went, Jesus went to the cross, not just for our healing, not just for our salvation, but He went so that we may have peace. It is our portion. It is where we as believers are meant to dwell. It’s not a place where we meant to come in and out. It’s a place that we reside in this place of perfect peace.

And I want to encourage you to be aware of that today, because I think there’s going to be some opportunities for all of us to have our peace taken away from us. And like I said, sometimes we can listen to the news or be on social media and we get so discouraged and that’s the enemy trying to chip away at our peace. And so we need to be on guard to protect our peace at all costs. And one of the best ways to do that is to spend time every single day with the Lord in His presence, asking Him to remind us of what His peace feels like and allow His peace to manifest in our lives.

And the great thing about peace is that it’s contagious. You don’t just get it for yourself, but you actually get to give it away. Jesus even said to His disciples when they went to someone’s house, that if that house was worthy, that they could leave their peace. But if it wasn’t, they should take their peace back. Peace is a big deal. And I want to encourage you this morning, that it is your birthright. It is something that you have the right to step into every single day and live from that place, because it is important to Jesus. And it’s why He went to the cross. Amen? So Jesus, I just release peace over everyone watching; the shalom peace of heaven that doesn’t lift, but dwells and permeates our very being, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

There Is A Peace That Surpasses Understanding That Is Available For You

We have been given access to the Prince of Peace, Jesus, through His finished work on the cross. When we are in active relationship with Jesus we have access to supernatural peace; the peace that surpasses our human understanding. Supernatural peace is not of this world. It’s not something we can muster up. Supernatural peace is peace the peace of Heaven.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ⁷And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“

In these verses Paul reveals a radical truth that must take hold of…we can come to the Father and present our prayer requests. Then in exchange He gives us His peace – a peace that is beyond our imagination! Moreover, He uses this supernatural peace as a guard to protect our hearts and minds. How good is our Heavenly Father?!

Need Peace?

Romans 3:23 reveals the reality of sin in the world, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” That’s a lot of sin in the world! Even if each person only committed one sin, that’s A LOT of sin, but we know ourselves that we have missed the mark more than once. Sin leads to chaos, pain, and a deep lack of peace. Sin brings the opposite of peace.

Praise God for the ability to access supernatural peace in the midst of a chaotic world! We don’t have to live caught up in the chaos of this sinful world. It is possible to live in the world, but not be of the world. Jesus makes this possible. We simply have to learn to access Him and His peace!

After all, He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). That means Jesus is the way out of chaos and into peace. He is the Truth that sets us free (John 8:32) and He provides abundant life. In His presence is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11). Jesus is the answer we can turn to in times where we need peace.

Supernatural Peace Is A Choice

We’ve already established that Jesus provides the access we need to step into peace. But what’s happening when we find it ourselves drowning in the swirl of negativity that often occurs in our environments? The short answer is that peace is a choice. In other words, we get to choose to live in the peace Jesus provides or the chaos of the circumstances of the world.

Matthew 8:23-27 is perfect example of the reality that peace is something we must choose to receive and live in. The disciples are in a boat with Jesus when a storm overtakes their boat (verse 24). Imagine the scene, the wind starts blowing and waves start crashing over the side of the boat. In this moment the disciples made a choice and they chose fear. Jesus, on the other hand, was sleeping in the boat. He was in the same storm, but made a different decision. Jesus chose supernatural peace!

Reflect – What do you choose when the “storms” of life come your way? Do you choose to live in supernatural peace or does fear overtake you? Why?

Keep Your Peace

Choosing to live in peace is a choice. It may seem unimaginable, but it is possible to be at peace regardless of any situation or circumstance in your life. We saw Jesus’ example when He chose peace and was able to sleep through the storm. The disciples, on the other hand, allowed the storm to steal their peace. In other words, they gave there peace away in exchange for fear that was caused by the storm.

We can make the same mistake the disciples made by allowing our peace to be stolen by negative things that happen in our lives. Have you ever let a co-worker get under your skin? Or maybe you’ve lost your peace when disciplining your children? How do respond when life gives you a squeeze? Are you still able to allow peace to guard your heart (Philippians 4:6-7).

If your answers to these questions are less than encouraging, don’t fret! Below are five practical ways to help you step into the supernatural peace that Jesus makes available!

5 Ways To Tap Into Supernatural Peace

#1 – Get in the Word

Joshua 1:8 NIV – “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

The Word of God is Jesus (see John 1:1,14) and Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Therefore, when we get into the Word of God we are spending time with the Prince of Peace. If you need more peace in your life then one easy way to do that is to spend time with Jesus, in the Word of God!

A religious spirit will keep you stuck in guilt and shame for not reading enough scripture or not reading long enough, but those are lies from the pit of hell. Any time you spend in the Word of God counts in building your relationship with the Prince of Peace.

#2 – Worship

Psalm 103:1-2 NIV – “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits”

Worship is a weapon. 2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV promises that the weapons of the Kingdom have divine power to demolish strongholds. When you’re facing a storm in life, worship can be the weapon that demolish the oppressing spirits of fear and anxiety. Worship turns our attention from the storms and onto the King. Whatever we focus on grows so if you find yourself in a storm turn your attention to the One who is peace.

Worship can take many different forms. You can sing out an original song from your heart or turn on your favorite worship album. Turning on instrumental music is another way you can use worship as a weapon for tapping into the supernatural peace of Heaven.

#3 – Pray!

Matthew 26:41 NIV -“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

In this verse we see how prayer prevents us from falling into temptation. The disciples fell into the temptation to be afraid when they focused their attention on the storm. Let’s learn from the disciples mistake and learn to “sleep” in peace.

Prayer is another powerful weapon that can help us move from chaos into peace. Whether you pray in your native language or in tongues prayer is an immediate connection to the Lord. Prayers of petition, thanksgiving, and surrender are just a few of the ways that we can cast our cares (1 Peter 5:7) and burdens on the Lord and remain in peace.

#4 – Spend time in nature

Romans 1:20 NIV – “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Nature is amazing! There are so many unique creatures, plants, and landscapes that the Lord has created for us to enjoy. His creation reveals His power and every time we are in nature we have the opportunity to encounter the Creator.

Where are some of your favorite spots in nature? Is the a special spot you went to as a child or the beach you visit every year? Or maybe it’s sitting on the porch in your backyard or at the edge of your pool at sunset. Whatever way you choose to enjoy nature it’s one of the easiest ways to step into the supernatural peace Jesus provides. Try it!

#5 – Be Still

Psalm 46:10 NIV – “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Supernatural peace is found in Christ alone. Sometimes stepping into peace is as simple as stilling ourselves long enough to remember that we are protected and provided for by the Great I AM. Meditating on this truth is another way to get back to peace. Even just ten minutes of being still and remember who He is can calm any storm in our lives!

Peace Is Your Portion

In the midst of uncertainty, peace is not an illusion to hope for. This truth is for you today – peace is an option for your life. It does not have to be a backup plan or a a feeling that comes after wavering storms; you can find it wherever you are in life. As a fruit of the Spirit, it should be a core element of your walk with God. Take the unique opportunity to lead yourself, your family, your workspace, and your community in peace.

Jesus Intended Peace

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid” Jesus tells the disciples as they discuss His anticipated death (John 14:27).

The disciples had a dozen questions and definitely were uncertain with all that Jesus was talking about, yet His departure was connected to this gift. How can we apply this same truth to our current struggles and misunderstandings, where we don’t always feel the presence of peace right away?

Choose This Gift Today

“Work at living in peace with everyone” (Hebrews 12:14).

It is a daily choice. Prepare your body, mind, and family for peace in your decisions. If you’re preparing to walk into a stressful environment, connect with the Holy Spirit to find peace. In circumstances where peace is not present, take a moment to invite it in.

A prayer for you: God, may Your peace saturate the lives of this reader. May your limitless presence come and rest over their minds and bodies as they navigate their life with you, knowing that they don’t have to take a single step a part from you.

Peace In The Storm

I want to encourage you today out of Psalm 23. This is a familiar passage, but the Lord’s been speaking to me through it recently, and I want to share that revelation with you. Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.” Think about that. Prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies, to sit down and eat a meal. You know, when you’re working all day and you take a lunch break, you sit down and it’s a time to relax. It’s a time to let your guard down. You’re not focused. You’re not, you know, if you’re working at a computer, like you’re not focused. And if you’re working manual labor, you’re not just pressing in and pressing in, you sit down to have a meal and you like relax. It’s a time to refill and refresh and a drink water.

Well, think about this. He prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies. That’s kind of like being in the eye of the storm. And if you know anything about a hurricane or a tornado, in the middle of that storm, there’s peace. It’s called the eye. And this is a perfect picture of how God prepares a table for you in the presence of your enemies. When there’s chaos going on, when there’s arguing, when there’s conflict, you can get in the presence of God and be in the eye of the storm. You can sit down at the table and feast on the word of God, spend time in prayer, and you can find peace in the middle of the chaos. This is possible for you today.

So you might not have a physical table with the physical meal while there’s a battle going on around you like in the Bible times, but you might have a battle going around you in your own life. And so I want to encourage you and pray for you that you set aside time to sit at the table with the Lord, and feast and refresh and be made whole. Sit in that eye of the storm and find the peace. He’s the Prince of Peace, and He’s waiting for you. Amen.

When Fear & Anxiety Attack, Remember That Jesus Is The Prince Of Peace

When fear, worries, and anxiety attack us, let us remember that Jesus is the prince of peace and He can calm the storm.

Fear & Anxiety

Fear and anxiety are what most people feel when the worries of this world come or the enemy attacks us. When we do feel fear during those moments, let us check ourselves because what’s inside of us is the thing that comes out of us. So, if fear and anxiety come out of us, we don’t have the peace of Jesus Christ inside of us.

Paul Martini shares a powerful message about peace in times of trials and distress. He referenced Romans 16:20 to emphasize that Jesus, the God of peace, crushes Satan under our feet. That’s how powerful His peace is.

“Who crushes Satan under your own feet according to the apostle Paul? The God of Peace. Why? Because His peace is that powerful,” he said.

Prince of peace

Mark 4: 35-40 tells the story of how the apostles feared after encountering a storm while they were on the boat. That story also showed us how the power of the Prince of peace calmed the storm. The fear that the disciples felt during that moment immobilized them, to the point that they even forgot about their faith. That’s how dangerous fear is.

“The one thing about fear is that it spreads like wildfire, it immobilizes you. It doesn’t allow anything positive to come out of it,” Paul explained.

Jesus will calm the storm

No matter what we are facing right now, let us remember that Jesus can calm any storm. The God of peace is in you. Jesus will calm any worries you have right now and will give you His peace.

“Jesus, who gets up within the same storm, in the same boat, instead of accepting the fear that’s in front of Him, He releases the peace that’s inside Him. He overcomes the storm.”
