I want to take a couple of moments to talk a little bit about pain. It’s something that we’re all acquainted with, and as not only believers, but as humans, it’s something that we experience and going to be something that we continually experience throughout this life. And I want to talk about it because we don’t often talk about the tension between God is good, and we are in pain, and it’s hard to hold those two things simultaneously sometimes. I love the scriptures where it talks in Psalm 23:4, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you are with me,” and in the Passion Translation, it says, “Even though your paths lead me into the deepest darkness.”
And so sometimes the Lord will lead us into these places, because there is intimacy to be found in those places with Him. And I think that we need to learn as believers, how we can commune, how we can find intimacy that turns to joy in the midst of our pain, because pain is something that we can’t escape. And we even know that Jesus, being fully God and fully man, it says, Jesus wept. And so, the fact that Jesus stepped in to our human emotions and He wept, even though He knew the outcome, He still chose to feel pain, to feel sadness. And I believe it’s because He wanted to be able to meet us in that place.
So I want to encourage you, that if you’re in the midst of a painful situation, God is still good. He has still got your back and there is purpose to the pain. And I want to also just say, it’s not a place to camp forever, but sometimes we do have to learn how to sit there and process it, and then healthily walk out of that valley, side-by-side with Jesus. And again, He is with you in the pain. He is not absent. He isn’t scared by your pain. He wants to be there. He wants to join in intimacy with you in the midst of every single season that you are going through.
I want to pray for you for a moment, if that is you and you’re experiencing pain right now, and you can’t seem to find Jesus, or perhaps you do find Jesus in that pain, but you’re just ready for that pain to be done. I’m going to pray. Jesus, I thank you so much for these people watching today, and I ask, Lord, that you would meet them in every single place, in every single emotion that we hold, you have experienced those same emotions, God. And so not only are you there with us, but you have been there as well. And Father, we ask that you would just help carry us out of seasons of pain, help us to process pain well, so that we move from one season to the next, with health and increase in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
