Each year, the Tim Tebow Foundation hosts the Night To Shine annually in different cities across the globe. This year at a celebration in Illinois, Tim gave out crowns to people with special needs, crowning them as prom kings and queens.
This year was the third time the Night to Shine took place and included a total of 655 churches in all 50 states and 24 countries who took part in the event. A combined number of over 200,000 volunteers also worked to make this incredible global event possible.
The Illinois prom night was co-hosted by First Christian Church in Champaign, who arranged a dance where people with special needs were the stars of the show. Aged 14 and upwards, they could bring their families with them to enjoy a night of dancing, music, food and fellowship.
Of course veryone got dressed up for the prom. The ladies got their hair and make-up done and the gentlemen donned ties. Then, the red carpet was rolled out for the prom queens and kings.
“My mom did this hair for me,” Samantha Beissman, one of the queens, stated happily in an interview.
Through the event, the guests got a chance to do something that they may not have never done before. It was an emotional and memorable evening for the young people.
“Every single person is important”
“Tonight is just so special because there’s just so many things in our society that tears people apart and tonight is the night that brings people together,” said Tim Tebow. “Because every single person is important. We’re all loved, we’re all created in God’s image and there’s a reason and a purpose for our lives.”
“We’re celebrating really special individuals of our community that sometimes were overlooked,” said the event Coordinator, Kelsey Wright. “God loves each and every single one of us. And we just feel like it’s important for them to recognize that and to know that too.”
