A Woman’s Genuine Reaction

Ray Comfort preached the gospel to a woman named Natalie. She believed that there is life after death, but she said she wasn’t afraid of dying.

“Because I feel like once you’re dead, there… all the worries and all the pain are gone,” she said.

She also believed that every good person would go to heaven. But that changed when Ray started sharing the Gospel with her.

God’s Standard

He gently explained the difference between a man’s standard and God’s standard.

“But the problem is they judge themselves by their own standards. So, let’s see if you can make it to heaven. This is the big question. That’s normal [to think you’re a good person] because you have your own standards. But God gives His own standards, The Ten Commandments. Are you familiar with The Ten Commandments?” Ray asked, to which Natalie answered “no.”

Ray walked her through the Ten Commandments, and after a while, Natalie began to understand her need for a Savior.

Then Ray used an analogy to explain why he shared the Ten Commandments. And it changed her.

The Cure

“Imagine you’re a doctor and you’ve got someone in front of you who thinks they’re extremely well. They look fit, healthy, and well. But you know differently. You’ve seen X-rays and this person is going to be dead in two weeks. He’s got a cancerous disease. You’ve got a cure in your pocket. Do you show them the X-rays or give them the cure? Which way would you go?” Ray asked.

Natalie answered, “I’ll give him the cure.”

“Generally, he’s not going to take it. Do you know why? Because he thinks he’s well. He’s going to say, “Doc, what do you give me this cure for? I’m healthy and doing well. Look at me, I’m fit and healthy.” If the doctor knows what he’s doing, he’ll show him the X-rays. He’ll make him sweat. Make him shake a little to a point where he says, “Oh, doc. This is deadly serious. What should I do?” Now he’s ready for the cure because he’s seen his disease. He’s going to appreciate and appropriate it,” Ray said.

Woman’s Genuine Reaction Was Captured When She Received Jesus

“The Ten Commandments are the moral law. You and I broke the law, but Jesus came and paid the fine. That’s why He said, “It is finished” before He died. God can legally dismiss your case because Jesus paid the fine. He can legally let you live forever. He can take the death sentence off you, all because of what Jesus did on the cross, or His death and resurrection. According to the Bible, all you have to do to find everlasting life is repent of your sins and turn from them. Then you trust in Jesus,” Ray said.

Natalie started to become emotional. She was ready to repent and change.

That’s when Ray prayed for her, “Father, I pray for Natalie. Thank You for her open heart today and her honesty and acknowledging her sins. I pray she’ll understand Your love for her expressed through the cross. And how she can have an everlasting life through genuine sorrow for her sin and faith in Jesus. And this day be born again and pass from death to life all because of Your kindness. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”

While crying, Natalie said, “You coming up to me really made my day. And it just opened my eyes, and I’ve been wanting to get closer to God because a lot of things have been happening in my life.”

“I believe God’s hand has been on you today, and it’s for your good,” Ray concluded.
