The popular restaurant chain Chick-Fil-A announced this week that they will be donating $10.8 million toward the COVID-19 relief effort.
Chick-Fil-A
Chick-Fil-A is one of the largest fast-food restaurant chains in America with 2,300 branches across 47 states. The restaurant founder S. Truett Cathy is a devout Christian and applies biblical values in running the popular restaurant.
As the situation in America regarding the coronavirus pandemic continues, Chick-Fil-A wanted to help the community. The United States now has over 819,000 positive cases of COVID-19 as of April 22.
$10.8 million donation
This week, Chick-Fil-A announced that they will be distributing $10.8 million to local communities through their network of more than 1,800 independent restaurants. The restaurant’s goal is to have “an immediate impact on the needs of local communities.”
“Striving to be a supportive, caring and generous neighbor is in our DNA. Our restaurant Operators give back locally in so many ways, and this time is no exception,” Chick-fil-A Chairman and CEO Dan Cathy said.
The funds will be available through June for food donations to first responders, medical workers, and families of Chick-Fil-A employees. Prior to the announcement, the restaurant chain had already been putting forth effort to help those affected by the pandemic.
COVID-19 Relief Effort
Since March, when the pandemic first broke out on the U.S., they have given 320,000 free meals through the Chick-Fil-A Shared Table program. And the restaurant’s supply chain has donated over 7,700 cases of fresh produce to Feeding America.
“I’m humbled by the incredible care our restaurant teams have shown – from offering free meals to health care workers to feeding school children in need to writing notes of encouragement for guests,” Dan Cathy said. “They know where the need is in their local community, and our goal for this fund is to support their efforts.”
