Your walk with God is not something that passively happens to you. Leading yourself well in the Lord requires taking up personal responsibility, living intentionally in all areas of your life.
Community Keeps us Responsible
You alone possess the authority to live your life purposefully. But, a godly community keeps you accountable to the life you are called to live. Do your friends regularly speak into your life? Have you given them the voice to do so? Open yourself to the gentle correction from a brother that brings strength and resilience. As you do so, you create the bedrock of a healthy community for yourself and those around you.
Leading From the Father’s Voice
While you are responsible for leading yourself well, you are not doing it alone with friends either. God not only guides our steps daily but has given us His word to make wise decisions.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints” (Proverbs 2:6-8)
Leading our lives from the place of the Lord’s wisdom is where we are always meant to rest in. In taking this responsibility, you are not agreeing to stress or striving. Rather, you partner with God’s voice to powerfully steward a life of impact.
Ultimately, Jesus is our Good Shepherd. But don’t become lazy in the leadership of Jesus so that you no longer possess the drive to stay accountable to the life you are called to live. Let yourself be led by the guidance of Holy Spirit and become enamored by the way the love of God flows through you.
