YOUR Words Can Impact the World
“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” ~Proverbs 16:24
Have you ever had someone speak a word of encouragement to you when you really needed it?…How many times have you said something that you later regretted?…
You never know how what you say can change a life.
Words have the power to heal and to tear down. Words are so easily said, yet so hard to take back. They can pierce like a knife leaving hearts to “bleed”, ultimately resulting in scar tissue, or they can bring hope to the hurting and revitalize broken hearts. That’s why prayerfully choosing our words before saying them is so important! The Bible says that the tongue has power over life and death. “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” Proverbs 18:21.
When we choose to love others with our words, friendships can be restored, attitudes shift, hearts can be healed, and marriages can be saved through God’s power. And, when we choose to say something kind after someone has insulted us, it can diffuse an argument and bring healing. “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Proverbs 15:1.
- Let’s choose to use our words to build up, to encourage; to inspire others to achieve their God-given dreams.
- Let’s choose to speak life over people, to ignite hope in hurting hearts, to bring a smile to the downcast; to make a difference one person at a time.
When we do that, a ripple effect happens that becomes widespread.
My son reminded me of the ripple effect recently when he was carrying a flower in his hand and wanted to “water” it. He gently dropped it in the bay, and I saw how that action created ripples that extended well beyond the flower’s location after it hit the water. When we “water” others’ lives with the Word of God and exhort them in their God-given giftings, it not only inspires them but also reaches people who will be impacted by those we have encouraged. Let this visual be a reminder that what we vocalize to others can make a difference in lives we have never met.
Proverbs 25:11 says, “Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken at the right time.”
We have the amazing opportunity of building up the body of Christ. Our words can also draw those who don’t yet have a personal relationship with Jesus. When we are willing to be used as God’s instruments not only by our actions but also by our speech, we can be world changers for the Kingdom by proclaiming hope to the wounded.
- Let’s allow the Lord to use us to speak life to people one word at a time.
- With God’s leading, you can create a domino effect that will make an impact and change the world.
What has the Holy Spirit been prompting you to say to encourage someone?
