Later, Marnus revealed the secret behind the sticker. He opened up to the outlet about his Christian faith for the first time. And he admitted that maybe, his teammates were right.
Favorite Bible Verse
The cricketer shared that the eagle represented his favorite Bible verse Isaiah 40:31. It was written there, “For those who hope in the Lord, He shall renew their strength. They shall soar on wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not be faint.”

While Marnus acknowledged his teammates’ speculation about his eagle sticker, he explained that it’s not really the sticker that has divine power. Instead, it served as a reminder for him to trust in God’s Word.
“One of the biggest things in sport is your mind,” he explained. “And once your mind goes down a path, you can’t stop it, it just goes down that path. I don’t think stickers matter – until you start thinking it matters.”

Faith In God
Marnus also shared how his Christian faith played a significant role in his life. Although he’s known for his sport, his faith in God has always been the foundation of everything he has been doing.
“Everyone knows that cricket’s a major part of my life but the value of me as a person isn’t in cricket, it’s in my faith,” he remarked.
Marnus also revealed that he grew up in a Christian home. Hence, as a young boy, he often laid up on his bed, “praying every night.”
In addition, Marnus’s mother often “writes bible verses on the soles of his cricket shoes,” according to the Cricket website. Furthermore, he met his wife at church.
