Boston Celtics’ Semi Ojeleye credited God for his spectacular performance during his career game against Toronto Raptors.
Boston Celtics
On February 12, the Boston Celtics came face-to-face with the Toronto Raptors for the 75th season of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Celtics won with a score of 120 – 106. The key player during that recent game was the Christian athlete Semi Ojeleye who scored 24 pts.
Head coach Brad Stevens turned to the forward player as the team’s started. That game marked Semi’s second start of the season. Semi gave his best to take advantage of the opportunity. He led his team with his career-high scores with six three-pointers.
“God takes care of the rest”
When interviewed after his career game, he humbly credited the Lord for his successful shots.
“I really try to focus on the process of shooting and not necessarily the result,” Ojeleye told the media after the game. “When you get caught up in makes and misses, you ride that up and down. But this year I just try to focus on shooting the ball the right way, and God takes care of the rest.”
Semi Ojeleye
Kansas City’s Semi Ojeleye has always been open about his Christian faith. He has been using his platform in NBA to share about Jesus Christ.
The recent game was also Semi’s season-high playing time with him being on the court for 30 minutes. It was a night that could lead him to more playing time and more opportunities.
“Basketball is a roller coaster,” he wrote last month for The Increase. “My own playing time has been up and down, and that’s hard to deal with. But when I look around and see my teammates feeling great when they do well on the court, and then get down on themselves when they don’t, I know that’s when trouble starts. I try to encourage my teammates to get outside of themselves. One game or a stretch of games doesn’t define us. Instead, it may open up conversations of eternal value — conversations about Jesus Christ.”
