Do you ever struggle starting conversations when you want to talk about Jesus? Because I do. This is an area of life that we’re all so hungry to experience, but sometimes find ourselves struggling to walk out. I want to help you learn how to do that today. The first thing I want to share with you is, one that evangelism isn’t an experience, it’s a lifestyle, and that it’s not a personality trait, it’s a mandate from God. And that Jesus didn’t give the Great Commission to evangelists. He gave it to disciples. And so you were actually made to do this, and Jesus doesn’t call us into things that are impossible, unless we are doing them without Him.
When you are being yourself, you probably have the ability to strike up a conversation with just about anybody. “Hey, I like your shirt.” “Hey, how much does that cost?” “Hey, isn’t it beautiful out here today?” These are the kinds of things that I want to give you permission to take in to the mission field. You don’t have to have a spiritual intro point. All you have to do is be you. And this is clearly displayed in the Gospels. If you read throughout the life of Jesus, He didn’t make evangelism or walking in the Spirit impossible to attain for His disciples. He modeled it so that it could be easily understood, recognized, and walked out.
This is an example of that. The woman at the well. What does He start talking about? Water. He didn’t come in with a flashy point. He saw a human being. He saw her heart and all He did was recognize what was happening in the natural, and He brought a spiritual element, a spiritual reality into the mix. And so I want to encourage you to begin to one, just give yourself permission to have conversations that might not lead to Jesus. You just get to talk with people. And then as you learn to do that, begin to listen to Holy Spirit and then take a risk and just see what happens. You have all that you need to thrive in evangelism, to share the Gospel, and to lead people to Jesus. All it takes is just striking up a conversation like you would anywhere, in a bus, in a cab, on an Uber, and the subway. And so I just want to bless you today with freedom to talk to people and to listen for Holy Spirit. Bless you.
