I’ve dreamed for years to be an artist. Though I believe anyone that creates is an artist, I wanted to create a business and really go after the creative desires of my heart. It was always an idea I talked about with my husband and friends, but never a goal I put steps toward accomplishing.
When I found out I was pregnant, everything changed. I suddenly realized how quickly life was happening. If I wanted to own a business, it was up to me to commit to the daily pursuit of this dream. It’s incredible how quickly our hearts and minds can decide to make a change. I’ve found it is the small steps we make towards our dreams that God meets us.
Your small steps matter to God
In my pursuit of a business, I knew I needed God’s help. I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) start anything without Him. I’ve been amazed at how much joy and satisfaction I’ve found in the mundane, daily tasks this requires. Inviting God into the small steps required made my dream more alive than ever before.
Once I took a step back and evaluated what filled my days in the present, I realized I wasn’t doing much that reflected my dreams for the future. I want to encourage you today to go for the dreams of your heart. The large-scale dreams you desire won’t happen overnight. They require your intentional effort in the small, daily moves forward. If you dream to be a writer, practice journaling a page a day. Find an attainable, small way to practice the goal you are moving toward. Take the pressure off to make things perfect. Instead, allow yourself to get uncomfortable in the new. Let God take care of the rest.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)
