Parenting Teenagers

I am a youth worship director, and today I wanted to talk to you, and also a mom of a 16 year old, and I want to tell you today, three tips that I’ve found that really help to grow healthy teenagers that really always love and serve the Lord for the rest of their life.

So my first tip is to remember that they have a lot of emotions in their bodies, and sometimes they don’t always show up on their face. So sometimes when I’m talking to a teenager, I won’t even know that they are being so moved by the word of God, or by the worship that we’re doing, or by the verse that I read to them, or the word that I gave them. They are stone faced and they are not giving me any feedback, but I know that the Lord has spoken it to them. So I’m faithful, and I say the word, and let me tell you, I can’t tell you the number of times that they’ve come back to me and said, “Thank you for sharing that. When you shared that I was going through X, Y, and Z, and it broke things off of me.” So don’t get discouraged if you don’t see the reactions in the way that you think you should. Don’t get discouraged. Keep going, keep sharing with your kids, keep pouring into them, even if it’s not your kid. Even if it’s just a teenager that you know at church, pour into them.

My second tip for you is that teenagers need to feel empowered to make decisions. Because if they wait until they move out of your house before you ever let them make any decision for themselves, even if it’s the wrong decision, they are going to always feel like they can’t make great decisions. So empower your teenagers to make great decisions, give them your knowledge and wisdom, but let them make mistakes. It’s okay. We all fail, we all fall. Let your teenagers make mistakes. Now obviously, take it with a grain of salt, because we don’t, you know, let our teenagers do things that could harm them or other people, obviously. But when you have a good kid and, you know, most of us do, honestly, most of our teenagers just really want to love the Lord. They just want to feel empowered. So I want to give you that tip today. Empower your teenagers to make good decisions.

And the third thing that I wanna tell you, is that encourage your teenagers to get connected with other kids that love the Lord. This is so hard sometimes to find the right community. But if your kids constantly feel isolated before they enter into the world, they’re not going to know how to look for friends that are strong, that are healthy, and they’re not going to have a support system. And just like we need a support system as adults, our teens need a support system.

So if there’s a teenager in your life, I want to give you a challenge today. Any teenager in your life, maybe it’s somebody that you know at church, maybe you’re a teacher and it’s one of your kids in your class. Maybe you’re a parent and it’s one of your actual biological children. I want to encourage you today. If there’s a teenager in your life, write them a handwritten note with a word from the Lord and hand it to them. And I want to challenge you to ask the Lord, ask the Lord for that breakthrough, ask Him for that blessing, and ask Him to show you the testimony on the other side of handing somebody an encouraging word in the middle of their day.

All right. Thank you, Jesus for our teenagers. Thank you, God that we all grow. We all go through these periods of time where we’re growing and learning. And I thank you that our teenagers are after your heart. We thank you for Gen Z, Jesus. We thank you for Gen Z and the creative nature of who they are, for the people that they are, for the heart that they have, for creativity and for adventure and excitement. God, we bless those things in Gen Z and God we say thank you for putting them in our lives to actually teach us how to keep it young and how to keep it fun. And we choose today to bless a teenager in our life. God, we pray blessing, outpouring, encounters, and moments with God, that they would undeniably know who you are, and that they would lead a generation of people to the Kingdom of heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Younger Teens to Soon Receive COVID-19 Vaccinations in Israel

Following the FDA’s approval of the Pfizer vaccine for younger teenagers on Monday, Israeli health officials and medical groups began mapping out how to vaccinate the country’s 12- to 15-year-olds.

Chezy Levy, Israel’s Health Ministry Director-General, met with pediatricians and HMO representatives Tuesday to plan how to expand the nation’s ongoing inoculation campaign to cover 12- to 15-year-olds. Currently, those who are 16 and older are eligible for the Pfizer two-shot vaccine. Over half of the eligible population has already been vaccinated.

In the US on Monday, the FDA released its findings from a study of the Pfizer vaccine on more than 2,000 adolescents who volunteered to take the shots. The FDA said there were no cases of COVID-19 among those who were fully vaccinated, as opposed to 18 patients among those given a placebo shot. In a mysterious twist, researchers found that the younger teens who received the actual vaccine developed a much higher level of antibodies than observed in young adults. The younger teens reported the same side effects common to older individuals who have received the vaccine—sore arm at the injection site, flu-like symptoms after the second dose.

Israel has purchased millions of Pfizer vaccines in anticipation of inoculating the entire population, including children, and covering any necessary booster shots in the future.

The Health Ministry reported that there were only 53 new cases of COVID-19 in Israel on Monday. Since the outbreak began last year, 838,993 people in Israel have been diagnosed with coronavirus, and 6,378 have died. At the beginning of this week, there were record low levels of COVID-19 in Israel, with 974 active cases, 77 of which were in serious condition.

Teenagers Cry Out To God In Moving Worship

In powerful worship in a church in the Philippines, some teenagers who performed worship music ended crying out to God in sincere worship to Him.

A Facebook post by Guetio on Jan. 17 is circulating in social media as many were blessed seeing young people worshiping God in spirit and truth. The teenagers in the video are from Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry church. The young men and women were performing worship music when the Holy Spirit powerfully touched them.

Wearing white and blue outfits, the young people sang Chris Tomlin’s “Our God Is Greater” in their dialect. While worshiping, the main vocal’s voice broke, brought to tears. And everyone was already crying out to God as well. They lifted their hands while in tears.

The video blessed the viewers on Facebook with the powerful worship and sincere devotion the teens showed. Two days after the video was posted, it reached a wider audience with over 500 shares.

Facebook user Rodelio Punzal commented, “Thank you so much Dearest JESUS for your sweet Holy Presence.”

These young men and women remind us of a childlike faith like no other – the kind of faith that pleases the Lord and is a sweet aroma before Him. Moreover, it also reminds us of what Jesus said in John 4:24, wherein true worshipers will arise, which is being fulfilled today in our generation.

“But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.” -John 4:24

Many Teenagers Turn To God During Global Pandemic

Despite the disorder coronavirus pandemic caused the world this year, God is still good and working all things together for good as teenagers found God amidst the adversity.

According to Kaya Burgess’s report from The Times, a poll suggests that “the trend for younger people being less religious is changing.” It says that Generation Z is more likely to believe in God in their late teens and early twenties than Millennials.

Moreover, the report says that access to information could have contributed to building and bolstering teens’ faith. It is because they can easily access about faith and find like-minded people online. Furthermore, “experts said they faced less “stigma” from their peers for being open about their religious beliefs,” which could have led them to think more about faith during the pandemic.

Opportunity To Nurture Faith And Spirituality

In a message shared by Francis Chan in September, he urged Christian parents to take advantage of the pandemic to nurture their children’s faith and spirituality.

He explained, “I think about parents. I hear in a lot of churches they’ve got to meet together again because of our kids. And I’m going, ‘Man, God should wake you up right there. Parents are supposed to be teaching their kids.”

The pastor also stressed how dads should step up and believe the Spirit of the living God to lead the family, especially the children.

For Pastor Francis, the global pandemic is the perfect opportunity to grow, reflect, and prepare for future challenges.

He said, “This is a time where we realized we were not ready for this. So if we get another little break, let’s do everything we can to equip and prepare people for times like this. Because I really don’t believe this is the end of it.”

Teenagers turning to God amidst the pandemic reminds us that although the enemy intended to kill and destroy lives this year, God turned it for good.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.” -Genesis 50:20

Sadie’s got the perfect tool to combat pressures:

“Five seconds of awkward can save you from a lifetime of regret,”

“Five seconds of awkward can save you from a lifetime of regret,” says Sadie. She gives credit to her “older and wiser” cousin who taught her the rule when she was deciding if she should date someone or not. The heart behind the saying comes from those awkward moments of rejecting someone even when it’s the right thing to do. Teens have such a hard time getting over this feeling that sometimes they are pressured into things they would never have usually done before. Sadie is offering a good way to get out: take on the awkward for five seconds and your life could be saved!

Sadie gives five practical examples:

If Somebody is drinking and they ask you to get in a car with them say “No.”
If somebody asks you to drink and you don’t want to drink, you can say “No.”
If the person you’re dating wants to go farther than you want, say “No.”
Let God lead you.
If someone comes up to you and wants to tell you something juicy, tell them you don’t want to know.

Way to go, Sadie! Keep being a light!
