A UK pastor battling for his life against COVID-19 shares a message of hope on his Twitter while confined to an intensive care unit.
UK Pastor Mark McClurg
Mark McClurg, the pastor of Newtownards Elim Church in Northern Ireland, went viral after sharing his message of hope on Twitter. On March 24, he asked for prayer as he battles for his life in the intensive care unit of the UIster Hospital after contracting coronavirus.
After a day in the ICU, Mark posted a video online to emphasize the severity of the disease. He also urged everyone to stay at home and heed the government’s advice.
“This coronavirus is deadly, it’s dangerous,” Mark said in the video. “Coronavirus wants to kill you and wants to take all the life out of your lungs.”
“He’s my healer”
He then continued to thank his church family for the love and prayers, and declare that Jesus is his Healer.
“What I’ve loved over the last week is that my church family has been praying for me. Thank you so much for praying,” he continued. “I belong to Jesus, I believe in Jesus, I love Jesus. I give him all the glory right now. Lord Jesus Christ—not only my savior—he’s my healer. He’s real.”

Message of hope
While fighting for his life in the hospital, Mark still managed to share a message of hope to his viewers. On a video, he shared a scripture from Isaiah 26:20 saying that this virus will pass.
“Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.” -Isaiah 26:20
COVID-19 Overcomer
On March 30, less than a week after being admitted, he joyfully announced that he had overcome the coronavirus and was discharged from the hospital.
“I want to thank everyone for their prayers,” he tweeted. “I want to thank the staff at the Ulster Hospital for saving my life. [I’m] looking forward to enjoying life. Overcome #Coronavirus. Be kind. Jesus is my healer.”
