Hillsong Worship’s ‘Who You Say I Am,’ is now leading Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart from last Wednesday! The song about freedom and identity passed up Lauren Daigle’s song about worth and identity, ‘You Say’.
Reuben Morgan, co-writer of ‘Who You Say I Am’ with Ben Fielding, posted on Facebook a message of gratitude to everyone who made this success possible.
“We just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for what you’ve done to make that a reality. Our friends at Capitol Records and the Hillsong Team, you guys are amazing. I love the way you do everything you can to see people connect with Jesus. It’s just an honor to be part of this with you.”
A song our family needs to sing
The song also made an impact on his family and many more families around the world.
“When I showed Sarah this song for the first time after a day of writing with Ben Fielding, she said to me, ‘This is a song our family needs to be singing.’ And we’ve just been amazed that so many people feel the same way. We’re grateful to be on this journey with you, thank you so much for everything,” Reuben added.
Powerful Song
‘Who You Say I Am’ is such a powerful song that speaks about our identity in Christ and our freedom. As Reuben stated, this is a reminder for ourselves that we are children of God.
“This song is about freedom. Free from the tyranny of self, free from the opinion of doubters, set free from the chains of our past and the hopelessness of life without God. God’s kindness has brought us in from the outside and made us royalty. God’s truth over us is final. Sometimes it’s good to remind ourselves that God says over us.”
There’s no question why this song made it to the top of the Christian Radio Billboard Charts. Indeed, we are who He says we are!
Who am I that the highest King / Would welcome me / I was lost, but He brought me in / Oh His love for me / Oh His love for me.
