Karen King is a wildlife artist and videographer who will take you on an adventure as you see wildlife in their natural habitats and learn about their behavior. This is her story…I’ve known I was an artist since I was a small child drawing the pinto ponies my grandfather raised. At the age of eight, my grandmother gave me a paint by number set and I have been painting and drawing ever since. After moving to Florida almost 20 years ago, I fell in love with the state and its abundant wildlife.
My interests expanded into the form of photography and videography, taking me out to the wildlife refuges and parks throughout Florida. There is nothing like hiking out into the wild before the sun is up, watching and waiting for the first colors to appear in the sky and listening to the wetlands come alive with hundreds of species of birds and wildlife.

This is where God shows up and shows off His beautiful creation. Just to stand there in silence and listen to the day unfolding before you. It’s almost so strong you can feel His hand in every bird that calls and with every brush stroke of color in the sky.
Paul says in Romans 1:20, “By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of His divine being. So nobody has a good excuse.”
Passion is a wonderful thing. I believe God gives us the desires of our hearts and gives us all certain gifts and talents to use to further His Kingdom and to give back to the world. Our job is to perfect those gifts, hone our skills and do the best with what we are given. If we do our part, God will step in and do His part.
On a recent trip, I stopped in the Smoky Mountain National Park hoping to catch the elk in their rut season and hear the bugling calls of the bulls. My deepest desire was to capture the elk crossing the river so I could do an oil painting. After many days of photography, I finally heard the elk by the river. I saw several hundreds of elk crossing the river! My prayer had been answered.
Life is too short to mess around. I encourage everyone to follow their dreams and trust God will to do His part. He will never leave us or forsake us.
