Knowing who you are sets the foundation for your entire life. When you experience hardship, it’s the steadiness of your identity that keeps you grounded in God’s truth for your life.
It begins with God’s word and voice
Seek the bible for what God says about you. Meditate on these incredible scriptures:
- You are a child of God: “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,” (John 1:12)
- You are seated in heavenly places: “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)
- You are a new creation: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
Knowing who you are is sustained through intentionality
Having a renewed mind does not happen overnight. While we know God’s word tells us we are new creations, often times we must learn to bring this to the forefront of our minds. If we have spent significant time in wrong ways of thinking about ourselves, asking Holy Spirit to help us create new thinking patterns is crucial.
Our minds are powerful! When we encounter the lies of the accuser, we must take them captive and put them under the truth. The more we flex this muscle, the stronger it grows. Bring your community, spouse, and close friend around you to help with this. There is strength in numbers, and sometimes what we need the most is the encouragement of others.
A prayer for you
Father, thank you for weaving a beautiful, strong identity in us as your children. Bring this reader closer to your truth for them, so they may walk powerfully as the person you made them to be.
