The teenage girl who has been fighting cancer hopes, through prayer, to be home for Christmas for the first time since her diagnosis.
On June 2018, the 12-year-old Chloe Cress experienced back pain and her father Shawn noticed her limping. They decided to take her to Niswonger Children’s Hospital where doctors found a mass in her chest. Chloe was then flown to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis where she was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma.
Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare soft tissue cancer type that happens in one person per one million. Chloe, who was supposed to finish middle school, suddenly found herself battling a cancer.
“In the beginning, you just hear stage 4 and think ‘Oh my God, my daughter has stage 4 cancer,'” Shawn said.
Battle against cancer
Chloe was admitted to St. Jude for over a year and her family stayed right by her side throughout the ordeal. She underwent several cancer treatment procedures including multiple rounds of chemotherapy. The chemotherapy caused other complications that also required more care.
Home for Christmas
Shawn shared how his daughter was afraid at first, but it is now evident that Chloe has a hope that everything will be better soon. Through many prayers of many people, Chloe was miraculously healed. On December 12, Chloe returned home to spend her first Christmas at home since her cancer diagnosis.
“Thank God my daughter has beat cancer, it’s just crazy. It’s been so long, and you lose hope along the way, but it’s finally over. It’s surreal. You just can’t describe how happy you are. You kind of just keep going through the treatment and wonder when we’re gonna get there,” Shawn said.
The Cress family credits the miracle of God for their daughter’s healing and urges everyone to keep having hope.
“Always have hope because when it seems like everything’s at its worse, God can make miracles happen,” Shawn added.
