700th language

The possible recent Bible translations included in the possible 700th language list are the Huichol (Wixáritari) Bible, the Ellomwe Bible, and the Igede Bible. The Huichol (Wixáritari) Bible belongs to an indigenous group of people in Mexico. The Ellomwe Bible belongs to people in Malawi and Mozambique. And the Igede Bible belongs to a Nigerian ethnic group.

Wycliffe Bible Translations and the American Bible Society are both celebrating the milestone. The milestone that marks the tremendous work that Bible translators are excreting for the advancement of the Gospel.

“Every time we hear of the Bible being translated into another language, we know that means that for the first time the people in that language group can fully access the complete picture of God’s story,” James Poole of Wycliffe Bible Translators said. “It’s good to take a step back and realize what this 700th Bible means: 5.7 billion people who speak 700 languages now have the Bible in the language that speaks to them best. That is a remarkable figure and continues to grow.”

Bible Translations

According to the American Bible Society, the number of the full Bible translations doubled in the past 3 decades. In fact, in 1990, there were only 351 languages in which the Bible has been translated.

“We are grateful to God, our ministry partners, and the financial partners whose generosity makes this Kingdom work possible,” American Bible Society CEO Robert Briggs said.

Despite the milestone, there are still over 1.5 billion people who don’t have access to the Bible in their native language. However, Bible translators around the world are continuing their work to bring the Gospel to every people.
