The power of a broken man.
Brokenness
Eric Mason, founder and lead pastor of Epiphany Fellowship in Philadelphia, shares a powerful message about brokenness. The Bible often teaches us what it means to be broken and how would it benefit us in a way. Being broken is the most important thing for every follower of Christ.
“One of the most important things in our life is to be broken,” Eric said. “When you think of brokenness, most of us think of brokenness from the perspective of annihilation of confidence, the annihilation of anything in our lives of absolutely personal value and eternal value. But that’s not what I believe. I believe the Bible necessarily teaches us brokenness. Brokenness is a very important idea in the Bible.”

Power of a broken man
Some people might think of the negative effect of brokenness on a person, however, that is not the kind of brokenness the Bible tells us. The true meaning of being broken is being stripped off of our self-independence and pride. It is being aware that without God, we are nothing.
“Brokenness is the spiritual state by which one is disarmed of his self-dependence and pride,” he explained. “As men, we need the definitive reality that we must be disarmed from the things that make us think we have any value in anything except for God’s Word and His Son.”
As a follower of Christ, be broken for His glory, and He will be the One who will mend you and make you whole again.
“Brokenness always lives in this state of sensitivity that I’m nothing without my King. It lives in a state that says, I know God is using me, that doesn’t make us passive participants in God’s hands as He uses us, that’s not brokenness is. However, brokenness, as it participates in its commitment, to the God of heaven, it doesn’t forget that without God motivating, without God providing and without God strengthening, you would be nothing.”
