This nurse goes the extra mile. She plays the ukulele and sings songs to her patients, bringing comfort and joy to these children battling cancer.

Though it’s not required of her, Beth Porch chooses to go the extra mile for the children at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, England.

Nurse Beth Porch goes the extra mile

Beth Porch is a 24-year-old nurse working in London, England. Nurse Beth loves to play her ukulele and sing songs to her patients who are battling cancer.

With such a simple act of kindness, Beth chooses to leave a joyful mark on the hearts of both patients and parents.

“As part of my degree I did a bit of research around music therapy for pain relief… but even as a distraction technique it’s good,” Beth said.

“I think the music speaks to everyone’s soul. When kids and families are going through the toughest times it just brings a bit of normality and joy,” she added.

Touching the hearts of the parents

Every day, she shows up to work to bring love and care to these children. But she not only makes an impact on the lives of the children, but she touches the heart of the parents too!

One mother expressed her appreciation for this nurse who chooses to go the extra mile:

“Not only [do they] to try and help save the children with the outstanding care they give but to make them feel safe and happy in their care,” the mother added.

Kindness goes viral

Another mother named Gemma posted a video on twitter of Nurse Beth. It exemplifies how Nurse Beth brings a smile to her son while he’s being treated.

Her video post showing Beth Porch singing songs for her son went viral.

“How utterly amazing is this lady,” Gemma tweeted. “Her name is Beth, & she is a nurse on my son’s cancer ward at @GreatOrmondSt. She goes above and beyond the duties of a nurse & puts a smile on all the kids’ faces… such a special person.”

Gemma’s son Artie Vickerage, is a three-year-old boy battling with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Artie has been staying at Street Hospital for his treatment for the last couple of months.

Beth Porch is a beautiful example of a person who loves her job and doesn’t see it as a burden. And because of that love, she is able to touch and encourage many people’s hearts.
