In an episode of Hour Of Salvation, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries in Lagos, Nigeria, shares the three things one must understand before they enter a marriage.
Pastor David started his message by defining what understanding is. He defines understanding as responding to any circumstances with wisdom.
“Understanding is responding to life circumstances with insight. Life situations, handle them with knowledge,” he said.
As one decides to enter into marriage, there are three key things that one must first understand before entering the life-long covenant. Pastor David lists those things as the following:
“You must understand your purpose on earth. You must know who you are. Whether you’re single, whether you’re married, whether you’re divorced, you must understand that God made you unique.”
“Marriage is a union of a man and a woman in an exclusive God-ordained lifetime relationship… It is more for you to give than to receive. If you’re always on the receiving side, you will never get the best of marriage. Always think of how you can give love to the person.”
Your partner, mate, or spouse.
“Everybody is unique. No two people on earth are the same, even identical twins have different fingerprints. You must take time to understand your spouse, the likes and dislikes of each other.”
Marriage is not a simple covenant to take part in. Before one can enter marriage, there are many things that needed to be prepared, considered, and understood. You cannot be in that God-ordained covenant if you can’t understand who you are in Christ, what it is as designed by God, and who your partner is.
Being in that life-long relationship filled with God’s love is a wonderful thing. Marriage is good and is designed by God contrary to what today’s society’s idea of marriage is. So enter into that covenant fully prepared and filled with the love of God.
