Are you waiting on something that you have NO end in sight for, which requires a perfect timing for completion? THIS. This is the hardest wait you will ever have. And quite possibly, the MOST rewarding.
We all know the meaning of TIME – but the actual dictionary definition is really pretty cool – “The indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future – regarded as a whole.” Did you catch that? “The past, the present, and the future equals a whole.”
We have to go come from the past and through the present to get into the future, to find out all the reasons WHY it took so long and WHY we had to wait on the perfect timing.
The wait IS the journey.
It isn’t that you just sit out the wait, sighing with frustration at why it can’t go faster. Oh wait. Yes. I actually HAVE done that. Not so much sitting out the wait, but sighing with frustration at how slowwww the process is. There are reasons we have to wait on things and/or people, and for situations to fall into place or even totally change. And you never find out the reasons, if you walk away from the process too early.
Let’s talk about puzzles (which I talk about often, but in all actuality I really do NOT like to do them). There is probably a reason I don’t like to do puzzles – that I seriously just NOW realized (insert forehead slap to myself)! Puzzles take a lot of time to finish! It is almost an art form to begin, work on, and complete a puzzle. I am talking a 500-1000 piece puzzle. There are corner pieces, side pieces, middle pieces, edges, loops, locks, slots, and each will need to interlock. One piece will be followed by another one that connects to it, and so on until all of them are securely locked in place, and the final picture comes into view.
In this life journey all of the waiting and completing the interlocking process is done by simply putting one foot in front of the other, and plodding on. One step at a time.
You always hear the phrase – “it’s all about timing.”
Truer words were never spoken! It IS all about timing. It is that interlocking of the past, the present and the future. Specific things have to be set in motion for other things to happen. God meant for us to live out the whole journey and to finish the whole puzzle of our life. Sure we get frustrated, and wonder, and fret, and hold our breath – hoping we are getting it right and trusting that life itself will iron out the kinks and that it will all work itself out. I truly believe that if we allow God to be part of our journey, it is like keeping the cover picture of the puzzle box in front of us. He will lead us and direct us and hold us together when it seems things fall apart. He will join together the puzzle pieces that look like they just don’t even belong. He can use a pile of 50 different shapes and shades of the color blue to finally look like an ocean wave, or 36 edges that finally connect to each other and make a perfect frame around an unfinished picture.
If timing is everything, then – timing IS everything.
It ALL matters and THAT is actually very exciting and lends life a sense of adventure and anticipation at ALL the possibilities. Your past and your present and the future are ALL interlocking.
“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
Life was never meant to be a quick drive-thru experience.
Learn to embrace – and even be okay with – waiting. As the saying goes, “Anything worth having is worth waiting for.” I absolutely have no doubt anymore about why timing is everything in our lives. I’ve lived long enough to start the process of looking back and watching the puzzle pieces interlock. We all have “waits” which can ironically feel like “weights”. It can seem like a heavy burden to carry, but is crucial to the end result. Time has its own perfect timing that is perfected through the journey. Trust the process. The past, the present, and the future equals a whole. The whole is well worth the journey, the wait, and the perfect timing.
