As we get older, we quickly learn that life is not easy. We get instruction from parents, teachers, and church leaders. We also get “suggestions” from everyone around us: family, friends, neighbors, the mailman, and even strangers are quick to give an opinion on how we should run our lives. But the one thing that most of those people leave out is, ‘what does the Bible say about it?’ This is where scripture is of the utmost importance. A daily Bible verse can give you the answers you are looking for.

What Can I Learn from a Daily Bible Verse?

Many people do not read the Bible because they either believe it is filled with antiquated stories that are not relevant to today, or they don’t know how to read effectively. But if we are to deepen our relationship with Christ, His Word is the best source for gaining that intimacy.

  • How to Live – In the Old Testament we are given The Ten Commandments. In the New Testament book of Matthew, chapters 5-7, Jesus is teaching his followers about how to live day by day. This passage, known as The Sermon on the Mount, instructs Christians in how to deal with their attitude, emotions, finances, and interacting with other people. He reiterates The Ten Commandments but gives practical application to their meaning.
  • How to Love – No other love is greater than the love God had for us. John 3:16 is clear on that. He has given us an open door to a relationship with Him. Through that relationship, we are to show Him love, as well as to share that love with others. We also learn much about love from the passage in Matthew, but Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians gives us an outline of what love truly is. I Corinthians 13 is called The Love Chapter. It details what love is and what it is not.
  • How to Learn – A daily Bible verse can lead you into a greater knowledge of the Creator. Most of our approach to life is ‘how can this benefit me?’ When what we should be asking is ‘how can this glorify the Lord?’ What we learn about who God is, can help us to integrate life and love into everyday living. Scripture has powerful benefits that impact our lives.

Where Do I Go for a Daily Bible Verse?

While the ‘what’ content is there, the next question will inevitably be ‘where?’ Here are three suggestions to help you find your way through scripture:

  • The Bible. Go to the source. In this age of technology, few people own a physical Bible anymore. You may have one you used to read back in the day, but now it gathers dust on a shelf somewhere and makes cracking noises when you try and open it. Bible apps have replaced paper and ink. But this advancement gives everyone easier access to scripture. You have instant availability on-the-go to read at your leisure.
  • These can also be found through Bible apps. They can be Topical, Bible in a Year, or Scripture-based. They can be found in various formats. One week, 30-day, and 365-day are among the most popular. The best part of these is that through the Bible app you can set reminders. You will receive a notification that it’s time to read your daily Bible verse.
  • A subscription-based daily newsletter, like from GOD TV, will allow you to receive daily emails with devotionals, scripture references, and words of encouragement. Most sites allow you to set up how frequently and what type of info you receive.

A Practice for Life!

Whether you are a seasoned believer, or just beginning your adventure with Christ, scripture must be part of your daily routine. A daily Bible verse gives you perspective. The words you read in your daily Bible verse are given to you with two purposes: To deepen your relationship with the Lord, and to give you the tools to share what He has done for you with others.

It does not matter where you get your daily dose of His Word; what matters is that you get it. God will honor your obedience to reading. For if it is one verse or one chapter, God’s Word will affect your life. Isaiah gives us an example of this truth:

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:10-11

A daily Bible verse is not just for new Christians, those who have never read the Bible, or those struggling. What will a Daily Bible verse do for your walk?
