In GOD TV’s “It’s All Greek To Me,” Pastor Chris Demetriou of Cornerstone Church, UK, expounds into other profound Greek words phobos or fear, which will encourage believers.
Phobos or Fear
At Cyprus, at the tomb of the kings, Pastor Chris shares powerful truth on the Greek word “phobos.” According to its translated word “fear” Phobos means “fright, dread, panic, dismay.”
“Fear must be one of the most chronic human conditions. It’s probably the immediate response to anything we don’t understand or we’re not familiar with,” he said.
The pastor stressed how fear is quite a serious thing in a person’s life. And we must all deal with it. Furthermore, he pointed out that fear is actually a spirit.
2 Timothy 1:7 reveals, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear (phobos), but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
This verse reveals that if the fearful spirit is not from God, then it surely comes from another source. Then Pastor Chris explains where these sources must possibly come from.
“People that are constantly living in the past. The fear of what is going to happen to them in the future because of something that happened in the past. And that is what eats people up. It’s like taking acid every day. It destroys you inside,” the host explained.
Then he concluded that the fearful spirit comes from the devil himself.
“Your attitude cannot be to be fearful because that isn’t of God. Every time you are afraid, you’re basically saying to God, ‘Your love is not enough for me. Your love’s not going to see me through. I can’t trust in Your faithfulness,’” he added.
Romans 8:15 also said, “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear (phobos).”
