Over 260,000 people joined a World War II veteran in a virtual prayer meeting for “spiritual awakening” during the home quarantine.
World War II Veteran
World War II veteran Rev. Fred Lunsford, a pastor for 70 years, organized a prayer meeting after hearing God calling him to pray for spiritual awakening. The initial plan was to gather people on the mountains of Marble, North Carolina. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they have to go online to push through the prayer meeting.
In 2018, Fred was at the edge of death due to illness. He prayed to God for Him to take him home but God as other plans for his life.

“Two years ago, I thought I was going to die at the age of 93,” Fred said. “I was very sick and asked the Lord to let me die. I wanted to go to Heaven, but God said, ‘Not yet!'”
Prayer for spiritual awakening
When the war hero asked God why was he kept alive, that’s when he heard God calling him to “pray for a spiritual awakening.”
“[God] extended my years for a reason, and He wanted me to pray for spiritual awakening and to get as many people praying as I could,” he said. “God spoke into my heart, and I yielded to it. It’s not me; it’s the Lord,” he asserted.
In January, Mud Creek Baptist Church pastor Rev. Greg Mathis joined Fred in praying for revival. Rev. Greg experienced the thick presence of God during that prayer meeting and he thought about sharing the same experience with everyone.
Prayer on the Mountain
Together with Rev. Fred, they organized “Prayer on the Mountain,” an online prayer meeting event. Over 267,000 joined them for a day of prayer and fasting.
“I now realize that it never was about us gathering physically to pray but joining our hearts and souls to collectively pray together for a spiritual awakening,” Rev. Fred said. “It’s been amazing how it’s all happened, what’s taken place. It’s beyond my comprehension. I just can’t understand it. It’s all because of His grace. I know this is of God, and on May the 5th something big is going to happen,” he added.
