“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
You. Yes, You! So many times when we hear the words: “You are loved”, it is easy to turn your head to the right or to the left and say, “That’s meant for this person or that person but not me…”
Hurts of the past, words of rejection, and unkindness from others can all influence how we hear and receive those words. But…if you can truly accept and internalize this truth, your life will be revolutionized.
YOU ARE DEEPLY AND COMPLETELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVED.
Not the butterfly-in-the-stomach, fleeting, here one day and gone the next kind of love. BUT, the unending, everlasting; perfect kind of love—the ultimate love that comes from Above. Man may fail you. Friendships may not stand the test of time. Someone you thought would be there forever may walk away…
BUT, not GOD.
We can’t base the affection God has for us on the past or current treatment of others. Unlike mankind’s love, Christ’s love for us is everlasting, and He desires that we come and pour out our hearts to Him. The one who formed and created you wants a relationship with you. Jeremiah 31:3 says, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.”
If you feel alone…If you are facing immense heartbreak…If you are struggling with your identity and self-worth…If you are dealing with wounds too deep for words…then let Christ love you back to life and wholeness. Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Repeat these promises and receive them over your life: God will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). God has a plan for your life, and when you seek Him you will find Him (Jeremiah 29:11-13). You are valuable (Psalm 139:14). The Heavenly Bridegroom can pick up the broken pieces of your life and make you completely whole (Isaiah 61:1-3).
How do I know this? Because the Lord revealed this to me during a difficult season, and I know He wants to do the same for you. Throughout my life, I have experienced times of rejection. Unless you live in isolation (which I don’t recommend), at some point in your life, you will experience the inevitable “R” word (rejection). One such instance occurred in my late 20s. I was dating a guy who seemed like the perfect gentleman and godly. When he brought up the possibility of engagement, I wondered if he could be “the one”. Since a lot of my friends had already gotten their “Mrs. Degrees”, you could say that I was more than a little excited about the thought of a proposal.
Until GOD opened my eyes to the truth.
The mask of a chameleon revealed himself one day, when his character did not line up with the person I thought I knew. When I refused to compromise my Christian beliefs, the relationship ended.
The raw emotion of knowing I had been deceived and this feeling of betrayal came over me. Yet, I had total peace before the Lord that I had done the right thing, and that was a major factor that helped me endure the break up. While he moved on with another relationship and seemed to be “rewarded” in an earthly sense even though he had been a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”, I remained single for another three years. Spiritually speaking; however, I recognized as I drew closer to God that I was actually the one being rewarded beyond comprehension.
During this time of singleness, I truly began learning what it meant for God to be my Heavenly Bridegroom. As I took time and deepened my relationship with Christ, He began speaking to me in ways I hadn’t experienced in the past, and I learned facets of Him that made this such a special time in my life. Now I look back and am thankful that I experienced the heartache to learn the embrace of my Heavenly Father.
And you can experience this too.
No matter how broken you feel…No matter where you are in your story…No matter what you may have done…No matter how shattered your heart may be… Let Christ take your broken pieces and love you back to life and wholeness. Surrender your life to Him. He can paint you the most beautiful sunsets, bloom the most fragrant flowers, and speak straight to your heart if you will turn your eyes to Him and pay attention to the ways He is trying to woo you. God won’t walk away. The One who formed you has a unique and precious plan for your life, and your heart is completely safe with Him. Receive His love and let Him transform your life. Your Heavenly Bridegroom loves you fully, faithfully, and unconditionally forever.
