As believers we are called to follow our Lord’s example by being the light of the world…
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
There is a season for all things, and in this life, I have admittedly taken much of this for granted. Time is so precious. I’ve sweated the small stuff, turning molehills into mountains, and time and time again, let the sticks and stones of this world hurt me.
It wasn’t a matter of growing thicker skin; but, instead, I’ve learned to ask God to give me a softer heart.
I’ve learned to appreciate the little things, the moments that are given. I’ve stopped to smell the roses, making time to watch the sunsets, learning to appreciate every rainbow, and all of creation around me. These are the blessings. I do not measure my life on a monetary scale, anymore; because, I know, it’s worth far more than that.
I know that with each new day He gives me, I can choose to teach, and to learn, and allow my heart to truly forgive. I’ve learned that it’s not about me. It’s about Him, and in being an example in all matters of life, especially for my children.
Psalm 1:3 says, “He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
I do see the value of each of these seasons that have passed, and I do take away from them a great many lessons.
Life circumstances can often distract us from staying plugged into God’s Word. And if we begin to lose our power source, need I say, we will find ourselves lacking in many areas.
Trying to do “what is right” means to follow God’s standard without regard to the actions of others, or the uncertainty of our own circumstance. As believers, we should be prompted to remember Jesus as our example, when suffering any type of injustice.
Matthew 5:13 states, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.”
Be the light of the world
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’.” – John 8:12
When we choose to follow Him, through these difficult circumstances, and in trusting Him for them, our light will shine more brightly for others to see.
Jesus said, “Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from Heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” (Luke 17:28-30).
Do not give up. Hold fast to your own convictions, and in doing so, you will reflect a light for all the world to see!
